WestEd — a nonpartisan, nonprofit research, development, and service agency — works with education and other communities throughout the United States and abroad to promote excellence, achieve equity, and improve learning for children, youth, and adults. Standards Assessment and Accountability Services (SAAS) is involved extensively at the local, state, and national levels in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating standards and assessment tools, methods, and systems. Some of SAAS work is aimed at revealing how well students or workers are learning or performing; other parts of our work address broader concerns of accountability and program or school success. SAAS serves as the test-development contractor for high-stakes assessment programs in several states. Its projects also examine the technical aspects of assessment, as well as focus on a range of assessment and accountability-related issues for various student populations (e.g., English language learners, students with disabilities) and for traditional academic areas and developing fields (e.g., alternative school accountability).

Position Description

Center on Standards and Assessment Implementation
WestEd’s Center on Standards and Assessment Implementation (CSAI) provides state education agencies (SEAs) and Regional Comprehensive Centers (RCCs) with research support, technical assistance, tools, and other resources to help inform decisions about standards, assessment, and accountability. CSAI is one of seven content centers that provide research-based technical assistance and support for 15 Regional Comprehensive Centers (RCCs) and the states they serve. CSAI is committed to:

• Improving state policies, practices, and supports to districts for the implementation of rigorous college and career readiness standards and assessments.
• Increasing the capacity of the RCCs to meet the technical assistance and implementation needs of states around standards, assessment, and accountability.
• Capitalizing on available technology and media to promote engagement, effectiveness, and efficiency in the application of research and resources to expand the reach of CSAI.
• Continuously improving the operational efficiency and effectiveness of CSAI to support the long-term sustainability of educational reform efforts across states and districts.


• Provides professional-level assistance to CSAI Research Associates and Directors managing a variety of Center activities.
• Provides implementation support and monitoring of Center activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services.
• Contributes to the development of materials and systems that increase efficiencies within and across Center activities and projects.


• Masters degree in education, educational psychology, education or public policy, or related field.
• Ability to perform data analysis and interpretation
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment dealing successfully with short- and long-term priorities simultaneously. High tolerance for ambiguity, changing work priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to adjust writing style and tone based upon reading audience. Ability to produce a variety of written products (e.g., literature reviews, surveys, research reports, articles, briefs, brochures)
• Capable of coordinating work around multiple tasks and multiple deadlines with a variety of different staff members.
• Ability to work independently or with a team to design and create resources and services in a variety of media (e.g., print, video, online forums, Web-based modules, and face-to-face meetings)
• Excellent interpersonal communications skills, high-quality customer service skills, dependability, reliability and professionalism.
• Careful attention to detail when both creating and reviewing deliverables.
• Highly proficient in navigating the Web, including Web research.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, including ability to create sophisticated diagrams, charts, graphs, tables and presentations.
• Ability to quickly adapt to new computer programs/software.
• Some industry knowledge preferred (examples include experience working with state education agency, with federal or state funded programs, as a technical assistance provider or consultant).
