Position Description

WestEd's Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) program is committed to increasing science, technology, engineering, & mathematics literacy among our nation's youth. The program offers services, materials, and strategies that support teachers' professional growth in content knowledge, effective teaching practices, appropriate assessment, and evaluation.

International studies show that U.S. students rank near the bottom in science and mathematics. The STEM program seeks to reverse this trend by helping prepare teachers to meet the learning needs of all students, ensuring our nation’s future in science and mathematics education, as well as technology.

WestEd is seeking to hire child assessors to work in Chico, CA administering child math assessments to pre-kindergarten children.

The assessments are part of a large, multi-district early math intervention project aiming to enhance school readiness of low-income pre-kindergarten children. This position offers a great opportunity to gain valuable assessment skills working with preschool children. Assessments will be conducted in Spring 2017. Training and certification on the assessment instruments will be provided in March and April. Successful applicants will be paid for all training, as well as for time conducting assessments and associated research activities. This is a temporary position, but appointments can be extended as the project continues over the next two years.

Successful applicants can expect to work, on average, between 15-25 hours per week during the time period that assessments are being conducted. We anticipate trainings and certifications on the instrument to occur in March and early April. Assessments are expected to begin mid-April and to conclude in early June.
